A COMMUNITY DRIVEN TOURISM INNITIATIVE

Many of the areas where LHA will operate, will have the potential for some kind of tourism. The idea is to utilize this opportunity to earn foreign exchange directly into the community.

Numerous opportunities are waiting to be exploited, for example:

* Communities close to where game abound or in a game park, can put up a game lodge
* Communities close to rivers, can offer fishing safaris or boat game drives.
* Close to places of natural beauty, a lodge or even an upmarket tented camp will do well.
* Adventure sports such as bungee jumping, absailing and white-water rafting, are very popular.
* Birdwatching attracts tourists from all over the world.
* Photographic safaris are popular where game abounds.
* 4x4 trails are the newest form of tourism that is gaining much ground.
* Cultural tourism attracts many tourists.

All of these, and other, opportunities create jobs and bring foreign income to the community.

Every community in which LHA will be involved, will have its own possible tourism project to be researched. After a feasibility study has been undertaken and the interest of the community has been tested, funds can be allocated to start the project.

The success of any tourism project, both big and small, lies in its marketing. The idea is to create a marketing structure that will market all the various projects we are involved in and sell it as a package. A tourist can then book a tour through Africa and visit mainly our products and some of the “must-see” products such as for example the Victoria Falls. Such a tourist will then know that he will be safe, have a certain standard of accommodation, and that he will be helping the people of Africa directly. He will also experience the real Africa, but in a safe and friendly environment.

The benefits of an initiative like this are endless, but to name a few:

* Job creation.
* Earning of foreign income.
* Meet possible investors.
* Trained personnel will be able to find jobs elsewhere.

People will be trained and work as:

* Chefs.
* Cleaners.
* Guides.
* Builders and thatchers.
* Gardeners.
* Maintenance staff.
* Clerks, managers, foremen and storemen.

Other spin-offs include:

* Curio manufacturing and sales.
